BIO

übertøs is a rock band started in Bergen 2004. The band consisted of bassist Hilde Kristin E. and vocalist and guitarist Charlotte M.A and drummer Ingeborg M. Critics noticed rapidly the bands heartfelt song material, fuzz guitars and the feisty vocal of the front singer. The band emerge of the norwegian independent music scene of the 00’s.    

 

In 2014, the band plays insistent garagerock with style, and gets its inspiration both from punkrock, new wave and outlaw country. Ubertøs has been characterized as “an uncompromisingly beautiful beast that does not go unnoticed, and the front singer as" Siouxsie Sioux going honky tonkin' in Twin Peaks” from the norwegian newspaper Bergens Tidende, 2005.

 

History

 

Formation and early releases

 

Übertøs was formed in early 2004 by guitarist/vocalist and songwriter Charlotte M-A, bassist Hilde Kristin E. and drummer Ingeborg M. . The latter gave up after a year , and was briefly replaced by Fredrik Vogsborg from Casiokids, who left the band to focus on Casiokids. 

 

Hilde K. Egeland switch a while from bass to drums, while Ben Nerdal from Syme, came in on bass for a short time. In 2006, Marius H. Steen joined on drums, and was included as part of the permanent crew. The band picked their name in part as a reaction against those used by some of the contemporary indie bands in Norway, which they considered pretentious.  

 

Leaving la- vida lo- fi! 

 

In February 2007, the band released " Hunden " on the compilation Galant Records: Leaving la- vida lo- fi! alongside bands like Sgt.Petter , Emty Bottles Broken Hearts , Oh Little Sangman and Stereo 21http://www.galantrecords.com/galant/index.php?entry=entry070812-151037, 

 

"Hunden" (”The dog”) was recorded in Slyngen, the studio of Professor Pez and Sgt . Petter, with producers Paul Folkedal, Petter Folkedal and Petter Sætre . It was named this week's untouched on norwegian radio NrkP3 http://urort.p3.no. In 2008, Paul Ferstad (Team Blitzkrieg , The Better But Than You) joined the group as an sologuitarist.

 

To Hell On One Wheel

 

In September 2011, the band released the 7" To Hell On One Wheel" , it was recorded at the Dogandwine Studios with the help from producer Bjarte Hundvin. Helge Kvamme accounted for cover design. 

Un sale coup de coeur – Tromsø International Filmfestival

In January 2012, they recorded a song in french ”Un sale coup de coeur” for the soundtrack of the short film " Return" made byTorfinn Iversen, screened at TIFF, The Tromsø International Filmfestival (http://tiff.no/en/program/2012/tilbake-return).  This song was released as a single in January 2013, Helge Kvamme was once again responsable for the cover design.

 

Later controversies

 

In 2012 drummer Marius H. Steen quit the band, and was replaced by Anders Thomassen the same year. In the summer of 2012 the band started recording their first full album, at Petter Folkedals aka Sgt.Petter country studio. The following year, the band continuned recording of the album, but now in a metal studio, with Bjørnar Nilsen ( Vulture Industries ) and Arve Isdal ( Enslaved ) at Conclave & Earshot studios. übertøs will release the album "We do eat Lions" in november 2014! 

 

Musical style

 

Ubertøs began as a Smiths cover band, but soon began to create their own material . The band became known for their uncompromising mixture of genres , and unorthodox chords. Genre wise , the band has gone from making an indie rock band inspired by bands like Belle and Sebastian and Stereo Total, Devo, Siouxie and the Banshees and the Velvet Underground, to become more of a garage rock / cowpunk band with features of both country and metal.
